Where Do they Come From……Ideas for Classes!!
Right now I am frantically knitting and creating projects for our fall classes. I am often asked where the inspiration comes from and I ask other creative people the same. We pretty much all agree – we are not quite sure! A song, a picture, a colour, a texture, a random comment can spark the creative juices. I do know that I have more ideas than time to knit and that class projects have to work within the class format.
We know from fashion that texture and colour are very important this fall season – the new Rowan Book is a great example of what knitters are thinking about. We know from our own knitters that Christmas Gifts are high on their lists. So this fall we will be looking at a lot of textural and coloured projects. The accomodate the class format and our own gift giving lists the projects have to be small and still be interesting! We hope that you will like our selections – they will be posted by Aug 16th, most likely earlier!
Sometimes ideas come from each other. I’m working on a sock pattern for a fall class – I am very pleased with the sock itself, it is going very well! Dorothy takes a look, puts the sock on her hand and tell me “this should be a glove!”. So the class this fall will be a Wisteria Beaded Cuff Socks or Gloves – thanks Dorothy!!

Cat’s Cradles and Pools of Colour
Yesterday was the opening day of our summer sale and the workshop on the Pooling technique was also scheduled. What genius planned that? I would have to take full credit for the doubling up – I had a DUH! moment! It was a busy but a great day.
I wasn’t so sure at 6:15am when I awoke to the sound of rain – we weren’t supposed to get any rain until Saturday! Emily said that she could hear the words all the way across town. Why words? I had planned the workshop to be outside! I started to watch the sky and by the time 9:00am rolled around it was breaking up. The class was still outside – a very nice place to be! Outside of a couple of issues with yarn winding, and the uncertainty about the weather. Needles started flying and colours started pooling. We learned how to lay out our yarns – or maybe we were praying to the yarn gods for success!
After a hard day of knitting the results were incredible!

News Flash!! – Flying Saucers have landed!! – Barbie has just been sighted!! – and other Related News Items!!!
Flying Saucers have just been sighted at Mad About Ewe. These gorgeous sock yarns are hand-dyed and then balled to produce matching socks. So all of you sock knitters who love to match your socks – take note – now you can have matching socks in hand-dyed yarn. The yarn is a soft wool/nylon blend and the colours are great!
Who knew? Barbie is alive and well. She recently popped into the store to show off her gorgeous beaded gown. Her friend Linda, who shares my love of beads, just had to share this fabulous dress that she crocheted a few years ago. Doesn’t Barbie look great, not a day over 21!
The fall Classes and Workshops are under construction and will be posted by mid-August. Dorothy and I are knitting madly, trying to get the samples done. A couple of hints though, look for lots of colour and texture, both of which are hot ticket items for this fall, according to the fashion experts!
Darren rolled over yesterday – he liked it so much that he kept on repeating it! Watch out world – it won’t be long until he is fully mobile!
Well that is all the news for today! Happy Knitting!
