First Sweater!
Andrea finished her first sweater! And it turned out great. After swatching and measuring and then knitting like crazy she is finished. She needed a little help with the seaming, but once started she went home and finished it off beautifully! Congratulations!
Need help with your first project – come on in – we can help!

Jump into the “Pool”!!
The next summer class, Aug 5th, is “Pooling”! learning how to look at your hand-dyed yarns in a new way. Many hand-dyed yarns can be encouraged to pool deliberately, with wonderful results! I still have a couple of spots left. Jump in the water in fine!

Due to …..
Lack of interest the Paint by Numbers class for Knitters is cancelled. Perhaps the dates chosen were inconvenient or the project wasn’t something that you cared for – I hope that we can run this at a later date. If you are interested in this in the future please let me know.

MMmmm…Marvelous MMmmm…Malabrigo!
We have just received our first shipment of Malabrigo Worsted, 7 colours – it was so hard to choose! This is one of the softest Merino’s we have ever carried. It is easy to understand why it has become so popular. We have had the Malabrigo Lace Baby Merino for a couple of years and we finally took the plunge and brought in the Worsted – I am already planning a project for it!
With the quieter summertime hours we have been making some small alterations to the store, adding a little more slotboard and moving some things around. It has increased the open feeling of the store and allows for better viewing of some of the stock.

What is the first rule of trying to use up bits of yarn?
You have to buy more yarn!!
I am currently at that point. I have completed my mittens in June project – I just need to write the pattern for the mittens. But I had all of these left over bits of yarn, why didn’t I add a bonus chunky hat to the pattern? Great idea! Except – what is the first rule? So hat and pattern are currently stalled until I get some more yarn.

Paint by Numbers for Knitters!
I have just finished painting the scarf for this summers lace and painting workshops. The yarn that I eventually chose was Peter Rabbit by Fleece Artist. It knits up beautifully and takes dyes very well. This will be the project for the workshop – the Edge to Edge Summer Garden Scarf! A narrow center panel with one wide leaf edging and a narrow pointed edging, all patterns are repeating and easy to learn and see. By the time you finish knitting this one you will be an expert edge knitter! Dates for the class are July 22 to learn the lace patterns and to learn how to knit on edging and then on Aug 26 you will come back to paint your finished project with dyes!

Mittens in May!
Elizabeth Zimmerman knits mittens in May in her book Knitter’s Almanac – I’m going to knit mittens in June. Nice chunky ones, easy to transport, small to hold and simple to knit, perfect for a short, almost summer, trip! The store needs a “chunky” weight pattern for mittens. (At least that is my justification!) I’ve got some wonderful chunky wools, Naturally in three, dare I say it, natural tones and Alfa in red and black, an assortment of dpn’s in approriate sizes and a few design idea’s to play with.
We, my husband and I, are off to Ucluelt for 3 days of beach time. I’ve packed my knitting and picked my books, Knitter’s Almanac, a trashy romance/thriller, an interesting science fiction novel, and a novel – I won’t suffer for choice of activity! Hope that you have a great week as well!

Knit-Out!
Last Saturday was World Wide Knit-Out in Public. Mad About Ewe hosted a knit-out in the Courtyard in front of the store. The weather co-operated and everyone who participated had a wonderful time! Some new friends were made and some old friends became reaquainted – you never know who is going to show up.
Those who came for the day, brought some lunch or met with friends and went for lunch and there were many who came for a couple of hours and then left. Lots of socks being knit and some Cashmere being spun. We got to see lots of different projects!
We will host a knit-out next year and hope to see you there! In the meantime we have the Wednesday Stitch and Bitch and and the table is always available to sit, knit and chat.
Welcome to the Future!
Yesterday, with a lot of help from Amanda, Mad About Ewe started it’s own facebook group. For those of you who are on facebook come in and check us out! Our name is Mad About Ewe Friends and Flock!
Join up and post your comments and pictures of your knitting!
